Julie Vaughan, MD Joins Sauk Prairie Healthcare

Sauk Prairie Healthcare is pleased to welcome Julie Vaughan, MD. Dr. Vaughan will see patients in both Spring Green and in Sauk Prairie.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Vaughan join us,” said Family Medicine Physician Dr. Mark Timmerman. “As chief resident in the highly regarded University of Wisconsin Family Medicine Residency, Dr. Vaughan distinguished herself as a smart and compassionate physician. In addition, her rural upbringing makes her a particularly great fit for Sauk Prairie Healthcare.”

Dr. Vaughan is a Family Medicine physician who provides care for patients of all ages. She has special interests in women's health, pediatrics, addiction medicine, hormone therapy, breastfeeding, and in-office procedures. In addition, Dr. Vaughan has completed training in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), which is a hands-on manipulation of muscles, joints, and other tissues to improve movement and reduce discomfort.

"My approach to caring for patients starts with listening," said Dr. Vaughan. "When patients feel heard, they're more comfortable sharing what's important to them, and that helps us make the best decisions together. I want patients to understand their options, feel respected, and leave knowing they have a partner in their healthcare."

Raised on a bison farm in Indiana, Dr. Vaughan developed an appreciation for rural communities at an early age. Dr. Vaughan's interest in medicine grew from her college research examining health disparities and poverty. Wanting to move beyond studying the challenges and instead help address them directly, she pursued a career in medicine with a focus on family practice.

She earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin. During residency, she also participated in UW's Rural Health Equity Track, which focuses on expanding access to care and preparing physicians to meet the unique needs of rural communities.

Her rural training emphasized providing comprehensive care close to home, especially for patients who may have limited access to specialists. She developed additional experience in office-based procedures and values helping patients receive timely, convenient care within their own communities whenever possible.

Dr. Vaughan was drawn to Sauk Prairie Healthcare by its people and culture.

"Everyone I met genuinely loved what they do and the patients they serve," she said. "It's rare to find an organization where so many people are passionate about their work and have such long-standing connections to their community. That really stood out to me."
