Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding Help for First-Time Moms

Our Birth Center nursing team is here to support you during every step of your postpartum journey, including breastfeeding. While it takes practice, breastfeeding provides benefits to both the mother and baby. These include a lower risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes, and breast and ovarian cancers for mothers, as well as a stronger immune system and protection against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) for babies.

How Our Team Provides Resources for Breastfeeding Mothers

Childbirth Class - During the third course you will learn the benefits of breastfeeding, how to position and latch your baby, common breastfeeding challenges, as well as what to expect during the first few days.

Inpatient Support – During your hospital stay, a certified lactation specialist will coach you through the first stage of breastfeeding. Plan to bring your breast pump if you’d like to be flange-fitted and walk through how to use your breast pump when that time comes.

Postpartum Consultations – If questions or concerns arise after your hospital stay, our lactation specialists are here to help. From struggling with latch, positioning, or engorgement, to milk supply, flange fitting, and breast pump demonstrations, contact us to schedule an appointment at (608) 643-7223.
