Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Benjamin Cooper, Joins Sauk Prairie Healthcare

Dr. Benjamin CooperSauk Prairie Healthcare is pleased to welcome Benjamin Cooper, MD, to its Orthopedic team.

Dr. Cooper is a general orthopedic surgeon, meaning he can treat people of all ages for a variety of orthopedic conditions. Additionally, Dr. Cooper recently completed a fellowship in shoulder reconstruction and sports medicine.

“We’re very excited to have Dr. Cooper join our team,” said Shawn Lerch, CEO of Sauk Prairie Healthcare. “His additional training will allow us to offer a number of new surgical procedures, including hip labral repair and reconstruction, knee cartilage restoration, and osteotomies for limb alignment. Additionally, he will expand our portfolio of shoulder care to the region.”

A hip labral tear can occur because of an accident or sports injury, a structural abnormality, or repetitive motion such as long-distance running. Dr. Cooper is one of only a few surgeons in Southern Wisconsin who received special training to perform these surgeries.

Originally from Wisconsin Rapids, Dr. Cooper went to college at the University of Minnesota, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering. He went on to medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, and did his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. It was through his residency, that he connected with Sauk Prairie Healthcare.

“I was introduced to Dr. Ertl by a surgeon I knew from my residency. When I learned about Sauk Prairie Healthcare, I knew it was right for me. Their quality of care is rated very high, and they’ve got a really friendly, small-town vibe,” explained Dr. Cooper. “I’m really looking forward to being back in Wisconsin and being part of Sauk Prairie’s Orthopedic team.”
